Article in Out of Art: Kunst van de menselijke ziel - ik ben ik; Philippe Saxer

An article by Max E. Ammann on the outsider-artist Philippe Saxer with the title "Kunst van de menselijke ziel - ik ben ik; Philippe Saxer" for the magazine Out of Art (NED).

After the usual schools in Bümpliz (SUI) and Bern (SUI), Philippe Saxer trained as a stained-glass artist from 1982-1985, and attended the college of arts and crafts in Bern. In the following years he attended more art classes. In 1988 he was admitted for the first time to the Waldau psychiatric clinic near Bern, and has since then lived in a flat, with occasional re-admissions to Waldau.

Since the early 1980s Saxer has been creating paintings and drawings that reflect his mental state. His first exhibition in 1984 was followed by many others among them a solo show at Museum im Lagerhaus, St.Gallen (SUI) in 2005, which was accompanied by a monograph. Saxer features among the Waldau artists portrayed in Alfredo Knuchel's 2004 documentary, "Halleluja! Der Herr ist verrückt" (Halleluja! The Lord is mad).
